“A man is powerful on his knees”

Friday from 6:30pm-8:30pm Eastwood will host a time of fun for the whole family at the gym. We call it “Fall Festival”. This is an excellent opportunity to meet people and impact the community. There are a couple of opinions about whether we should even have an alternative celebration to Halloween, since Halloween is a day that honors fear and the devil. I believe we should offer something better! We could stay at home and do nothing believing that it is evil to have anything to do with such a “pagan” holiday. We could stay at home and hand out candy when the kids come by our house along with a gospel tract or we could open up our facilities to impact the community! We have chosen to do the latter. Last year we served almost 1,100 people.  Recently I was looking through the cards from last year and ran across a name of one of the attenders. She recently made a decision to follow Christ during a Sunday service! I think it is worth the effort; how about you??

To know God as the sovereign disposer of all good, inviting us to present our requests, and yet not to approach or ask of him, were so far from availing us, that it were just as if one told of a treasure were to allow it to remain buried in the ground.

A single strand of human DNA would fill a thousand-volume encyclopedia comprising six hundred thousand pages with five hundred words on each page. Yet the individual marvelously transforms the information into a person and personality that is his or her own. Ravi Zacharias

We have been talking about the possibility of offering classes to learn conversational Spanish. Heavy emphasis on “conversational”. These classes would help you learn to converse in Spanish, not understand technical grammar.

Obviously there is some learning of vocabulary required. However, a child learns to speak a language by hearing it spoken. The finer points of grammar is a battle when they get older and have to take “English” in school! Leave some comments on this post. If there is enough interest we will offer classes. Dios te bendiga.

“A tiny group of believers who have the Gospel keep mumbling it over and over to themselves. Meanwhile, millions who have never heard it once fall into the flames of eternal hell without ever hearing the salvation story.” K.P. Yohannon, President of Gospel for Asia

This Saturday at 6:00 the Hispanic Congregation “AGAPE” is going to have a family fun time at the EBC gym. Some of the Scraping Gravy group are going to play. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, drop in and support the effort to reach the Hispanic Community of Tulsa for Jesus Christ. g

We will continue our message series “Changed Lives” this Sunday morning by looking at a blind man called Bartimaeus and how he is healed and changed by Jesus Christ. You might want to get ready by reading Mark 10:46-52. The Bible talks about two kinds of blindness: physical and spiritual. By far the worst kind is spiritual. Religious people are often blind to the truth. Jesus encountered them throughout His ministry. We are living in a culture that has trouble with seeing and receiving the truth. However, let’s not be proud and think we know it all…pride leads to spiritual blindness…

Are you hoping for something that you think is God driven to be fulfilled ? Prayer is your lifeline to see that accomplished.

George Mueller was desperate to see children fed and prayer was his only lifeline. John Hyde was desperate to see lost souls saved, 1 soul a day, 2 souls a day, 4 souls a day and prayer was his only lifeline. David Brainerd was desperate to see the lost Indians saved and prayer was his only lifeline. John Knox said “Give me Scotland or I die” and prayer was his only lifeline. Spurgeon said I must have God’s power in my sermons so he established a ” Boiler room of prayer warriors” as his lifeline.

Let’s hit our knees with our God driven hopes and see them fulfilled through our lifeline of prayer. Chip

I received two questions today via text message. I thought I would put them on the blog and see how you might answer. Let’s hear from you over the next few days and then we will post an answer as well.

1. In 1 John 5:16 the Bible talks about sinning a sin that does not lead to death. What sin might that be?

2. How can you store up treasure in heaven if your saved by faith and not works?
