Prayer Quote of John Calvin

October 28, 2008

To know God as the sovereign disposer of all good, inviting us to present our requests, and yet not to approach or ask of him, were so far from availing us, that it were just as if one told of a treasure were to allow it to remain buried in the ground.

I can sort of understand this quote, but what I form in my mind probably is not the right interpretation of what he is trying to say. “Disposer of all good” is probably were I was thrown off at first, though I think that Calvin was just making the point that God knows our requests but still wants us to present them to Him and if we choose not to ask Him then it is as if we allow them to be “buried in the ground”. I am probably way off though, 🙂

It is kind of hard to understand. Can you interpret the quote Jeff?
