The Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone is an Egyptian stele (stone slab) with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek). It was discovered in 1799 by French soldiers. It is significant because it helped linguists decipher  hieroglyphs. Now there is a popular language learning software by the same name.
