Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Pauley Named the 2012 Recipient of the Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award

March 5, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Scott Pruitt today honored Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Pauley with the 2012 Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award for his work on behalf of Oklahoma seniors and vulnerable adults.

“Deputy Pauley’s dedication to his community is an inspiration to all of us who serve and vow to protect our citizens,” Pruitt said. “He has made a significant contribution to the education and awareness of older and at-risk Oklahomans to help protect them from abuse and exploitation. This honor is well-deserved.”

Pauley began his career at the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office in 1990. In addition to his regular assignment, he has advocated for seniors and vulnerable adults for the past 13 years.

In his nomination of Pauley, Tim Albin, chief deputy for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, said Pauley continues to go beyond required duties to help the community, including making home visits to elderly residents and arranging transportation for dialysis patients during last year’s snow storm.

“Pauley is the one we turn to when a case arises involving elder abuse or exploitation,” Albin said. “He is on call at all times for these types of cases.”

Each month, Pauley attends meetings for various groups who aide and educate seniors and at-risk adults to educate them about fraud and exploitation.

Pauley sits on the board of the Ann Patterson Dooley Family Safety Center in Tulsa and teaches about elder abuse at the Tulsa County Citizen’s Academy. He often is invited to speak at luncheons and is asked to conduct training for seniors.

“Deputy Pauley embodies the true spirit of this award with his outstanding work to protect the elderly and vulnerable citizens,” said Tom Bates, chief of the AG’s Public Protection Unit. “We are happy to recognize Deputy Pauley and his contribution to help educate Oklahomans about consumer fraud.”

The Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award is given each year to a deserving Oklahoman in honor of Brad Edwards, a consumer advocate in Oklahoma City for 25 years and host of KFOR-TV’s “In Your Corner” segment.

The winner is chosen based on exemplary and voluntary consumer service by initiating consumer advocacy programs, actively participating in such activities or taking significant action that protects or benefits Oklahoma consumers. The annual award announcement is held in conjunction with Oklahoma Consumer Protection Day at the State Capitol.
